Halal logos by country and who issues them
You photograph a halal logo on a door and want to know who stands behind it.
Foreign halal logos mean something only if you know the body behind them. This table shows which bodies JAKIM recognises in each country, so you can compare the name on a certificate with an official list.
Which bodies does JAKIM recognise, by country?
JAKIM’s list of recognised foreign halal certification bodies and authorities took effect on 21 August 20261. Each row below comes from that list or from the source named in the row. Volatile data: check the official page before you fly.

Where is the data missing?
- Logo images: the sources name the bodies but do not describe their logo designs, so this page does not show or describe them. Read the issuer’s name on the certificate.
- Japan: the Japan National Tourism Organization states there is no central agency for halal accreditation, so travellers should check each provider’s claims15.
- Taiwan: the Chinese Muslim Association does not appear on the list7.
- Thailand: the Halal Standards Institute of Thailand does not appear on the list8.
- Turkiye: HAK does not appear on the list12.
- China: the source names bodies “including” those above, so the row may not be complete11.
- Indonesia and Singapore: these are authorities, not single certifying bodies, so ask which office issued the certificate.
- Other countries: not shown here; use the JAKIM PDF.
How do I use this table at the restaurant door?
Photograph the logo and certificate, read the issuer’s name, and match it to a row. Then ask whether the certificate covers this branch and kitchen, and note the expiry date. A name that is not on the list does not prove the food is unsafe, only that you have no recognised evidence, so treat it as unknown or operator-declared.
At home, only JAKIM, MAIN or JAIN can issue the Malaysian halal certification and permit the official logo3. JAKIM says logos or terms implying halal status from anyone else are invalid, and that “Muslim Choice” is not a recognised halal label4.
Your next step
Read the five halal claim states to place each venue on the scale. Use the meal-assurance comparison tool to compare tour meals by your own rule. For a tour, send the questions to ask a tour operator. More checks are in the halal food hub.
If you have a photo of a halal logo or certificate and are unsure about the issuer, send it to us with the country and we will help you compare it with the list.
Common questions
Can I tell a logo is valid just by looking at it?
No. A logo shows who claims to have issued the certificate, not that the body is recognised. Read the issuer's name, note the expiry date, then compare the name with the table above and with JAKIM's current list. If the name is not there, treat the claim as unconfirmed.
Why does the table not show pictures of each logo?
The sources used here name the bodies but do not describe or reproduce their logo designs, and designs can change. Rely on the issuer's name printed on the certificate. If you are unsure, photograph the certificate and send it to us to compare with the list.
Is the Malaysian halal logo valid abroad?
The Malaysian halal logo can only be issued by JAKIM, MAIN or JAIN, so a restaurant abroad that shows it should be able to explain who authorised it. Ask which body issued the certificate and whether it covers that branch and kitchen.
What if the country is not in the table?
The table lists only countries where the source gives the bodies in full. If your destination is missing, open JAKIM's list directly and search by country. Where a country has no listed body, treat any halal label there as declared by the operator until you see more evidence.
