Singapore Changi stopover: prayer rooms and halal food
You are changing planes at Changi, and you want to find a prayer room and a meal quickly.
Changi keeps a prayer room inside the transit area of each of its four terminals, which suits a prayer-first transit. Find your terminal, note the room’s location and pray before you queue. For food, treat an outlet’s halal claim as a declaration until you see a certificate.
Where is the prayer room in each terminal?
Changi’s prayer rooms are located only in the transit areas and are not accessible to the landside public1. Here is where each one is.
| Terminal | Where the room is |
|---|---|
| Terminal 1 | Transit Level 3, Departure Transit Hall West, near the Cactus Garden2 |
| Terminal 2 | Transit Level 3, Departure Transit Hall Central, opposite Lift Lobby 213 |
| Terminal 3 | Transit Level 2, Departure Transit Hall South, near the baby care room4 |
| Terminal 4 | Transit Level 2M, Departure Transit Hall, near the smoking room5 |
Locations can change with airport works, so check Changi’s official facilities page before you fly.
What do the rooms offer?
Changi’s prayer rooms are open 24 hours daily6. They provide ablution areas and signage showing the qibla direction7. Changi also states there are separate areas or rooms for men and women8.
Bring a small bottle, a spare pair of socks and your own mat if you prefer. If wudu is difficult in a short gap, ask your own ustaz for guidance.
How should you choose a meal?
Singapore’s halal authority is MUIS, and JAKIM’s 21 August 2026 list recognises MUIS as the authority for Singapore9. That makes a MUIS certificate the anchor to look for.
At a Changi outlet, ask to see the certificate and check that it names this outlet and has not expired. If you cannot confirm it, treat the outlet as operator-declared or unknown. Choose a sealed item, fruit or the meal you packed instead. Our guides on MUIS halal for Malaysians and MUIS versus JAKIM explain the difference.
What if your layover is long?
Staying in the transit area keeps you near a prayer room and avoids entry rules. Leaving the airport means you cannot use the rooms, and you must clear immigration and return in time.
Malaysians do not need a visa for Singapore and may stay up to 30 days10. Travellers transiting without immigration clearance are exempt from the SG Arrival Card11. Read long layover: leave the airport or stay? before you decide.
A simple plan for a typical transit
- Check which terminal your arrival and departure flights use.
- On landing, find the prayer room in that terminal before you queue for food.
- Pray the window that falls in your gap, naming it by prayer.
- Choose a meal and a fallback, each with its claim state.
- Keep a buffer for the gate, since terminal changes take time.
What time zone and emergency numbers apply?
Singapore is on UTC+08:00, the same time as Malaysia12, so no clock change is needed. For emergencies, Singapore’s police number is 999 and ambulance and fire is 99513.
Your next step
Use the airport stopovers framework to plan your own gap, and fill in the prayer-stop itinerary checklist. If you plan more time in the country, see Muslim travel in Singapore and the hub on transit and preparation.
Send us your arrival and departure terminals and how long you have between flights, and we will help you map the prayer room, a meal and a buffer for the gate.
Common questions
Can I use the Changi prayer rooms if I leave the transit area?
No. Changi's prayer rooms are in the transit areas only. If you clear immigration and enter the landside public area, you will not reach them. Decide before you leave whether to pray first, or plan to pray at a mosque in the city.
Are the Changi prayer rooms open all day?
Changi states its prayer rooms are open 24 hours daily. That helps with late arrivals and early connections. Check Changi's own facilities page before you fly, because terminal works and rules can change.
Do the Changi prayer rooms have a place for wudu?
Changi says the rooms provide ablution areas and signage showing the qibla direction. Bring a small bottle and spare socks, and check the layout on arrival. Men and women have separate areas or rooms, so ask at the room if you cannot find yours.
Is MUIS halal the same as JAKIM halal?
JAKIM recognises MUIS as the authority for Singapore, but the two systems are separate. Read our guide that compares them before you decide. At a Changi outlet, ask to see a MUIS certificate, and note the outlet name and expiry date.
Which terminal should I choose for a stopover?
Your airline sets the terminal, so you rarely choose it. Check your ticket for the terminal and save the room's location for that terminal. If you must change terminals, ask staff about the quickest transit route.
