Tour packages

Free-and-easy days on a package: who handles halal and prayer?

The package gives you a free day, and nobody says who finds lunch and a prayer place.

On a free-and-easy day, the tour stops handling your meals, your prayer stops and your transport. All three move to you. That is manageable with a one-page plan, and a free day suits a mixed-observance family well, because you can plan around each person.

What jobs move from the tour to you?

Ask the operator which, if any, of these are still covered. Get the answer in writing; see which arrangements to confirm in writing.

How do you plan prayer around the day?

Name the prayer windows, not clock times. Zohor and Asar fall in the middle of a free day, so choose where they will happen before you leave the hotel. Read how to plan sightseeing around five daily prayers for the method.

Use the prayer-stop itinerary checklist to record the place for each window. In Seoul, for example, Seoul Central Mosque opened in 19761, and our guide on praying in South Korea lists the other options.

How do you plan meals?

Plan each meal by claim state, not hope.

  • Name one place for lunch and one fallback.
  • Say in advance what each of you will accept: certified only, Muslim-owned, or pork-free with questions.
  • Carry a sealed snack in case the plan fails.

Show a dietary card in the local language. Our dietary request cards include one for Korea.

What goes on the one-page plan?

Use this order, so nothing is left until you are standing on a street.

  1. The area you will visit, and the way you will travel.
  2. Lunch place, fallback, and what you will accept.
  3. The prayer place for Zohor and for Asar.
  4. The meeting point and the time to return.
  5. The leader’s phone number and the hotel card.

If you land in Korea and have time before the group, Incheon’s official site lists a Terminal 1 prayer room on the 3rd floor near Gate 24, open 24 hours2. Check the official page before you fly, because airport facilities change.

What if your parents come along?

Keep the day shorter and the stops closer to the hotel. Choose an area near where you stay; where to stay in Seoul for halal food and prayer access shows how that choice shapes a free day. Put a rest in the afternoon.

Your next step

Write the five lines before the free day, share them with your family, and send a copy to the leader. For a full worked day, see 5 days in Seoul with prayer stops and halal meals, and for the whole topic visit Muslim tour packages.

If your package includes free days and you are travelling with parents or a mixed-observance family, send us the day and the area and we will help you draft the one-page plan.

Common questions

Who arranges halal food on a free day?

You do, unless the operator says otherwise in writing. On a free day the leader's meal bookings stop. Ask before you pay whether any meal is covered on free days and whether the leader can suggest places. Plan lunch by claim state, not by hope.

Can the leader suggest a prayer place?

Some leaders can, but ask in advance whether they will, and when. Ask for the mosque or prayer room names in writing before the day, and save the map on your phone. Do not wait until you are already outside to ask.

What if my family members differ in practice?

A free day suits this well, because you can plan for each person. Agree beforehand where the shared meals fall and where each person prays. Put a meeting point and a time in writing, so nobody is waiting for someone who has already gone ahead.

What should I carry on a free day?

A hotel card in the local language, the leader's phone number, a charged phone, a sealed snack, water and a prayer mat if you use one. Save the offline map for the area you are visiting, and a dietary card in the local language.

How do I get back safely if the day goes wrong?

Know the hotel address in the local language, the nearest station and how you will travel. Message the leader if you will be late. Agree beforehand when to return, so a missed turn does not become a missed coach the next morning.
