Incheon Airport: prayer, halal meals, transit

You are connecting through Incheon, and you want to know where to pray and what to eat.

Incheon has two published prayer rooms in Terminal 1, and the first thing to do on landing is to find the one nearer your gate. For food, read the claim before you queue: certified, self-certified, Muslim-friendly and pork-free are four different things. If your layover is long, compare staying airside with leaving.

Where do you pray at Incheon?

Incheon’s official site lists a Terminal 1 prayer room on the 3rd floor near Gate 24, open 24 hours1. It also lists one in the West Transfer Lounge on the 4th floor, open 24 hours2.

Both are in Terminal 1. If your airline uses another terminal, check Incheon’s official site for that terminal before you fly. Airport details change, so save a screenshot of the map.

How does the terminal layout help you plan?

There are two rooms on two floors. The 3rd-floor room sits near Gate 24, so it suits you if your next gate is in that direction. The 4th-floor room in the West Transfer Lounge suits you if you are waiting in the transfer area for a connection.

Match the room to your gate before you do anything else. Pray first, then walk, so a gate change cannot cut your prayer. Malaysia Airlines lists Seoul Incheon among its destinations from its Kuala Lumpur hub3, so a Malaysian itinerary may bring you through Terminal 1 or another terminal. Confirm yours on your ticket.

How do you choose a meal in the airport?

Sort each outlet by its claim before you queue. The Korea Tourism Organization uses four categories: Halal Certified, Self-Certified, Muslim Friendly and Pork-free.

  • Halal Certified: an accredited agency such as the Korea Muslim Federation has certified the restaurant4.
  • Pork-free: the restaurant has no halal menu but does not use pork, and alcohol may be sold5.

JAKIM’s 21 August 2026 list recognises two Korean bodies, KMF in Seoul and the Korea Halal Authority Corporation in Cheongju6. Our guide on Korea halal certification explains how to read a certificate.

Ask for the certificate and expiry date, and treat anything else as declared or unknown. A sealed item or the snack you packed is a safe fallback.

What are your transit-hour options?

A short transit: stay inside, pray at the closest room, eat a meal you have confirmed and keep a buffer for your gate. A longer transit: decide whether to leave.

Malaysians need a K-ETA for visa-free entry to South Korea of up to 90 days, valid for three years, with an onward ticket7. Check the official Korean pages before you plan to leave, because entry rules change. Read long layover: leave the airport or stay? for the trade-offs.

A one-page Incheon plan

  • Terminal your airline uses, and the room nearest your gate.
  • The prayer window that falls in the gap, named by prayer.
  • One meal with its claim state, and one fallback.
  • Whether you stay inside or leave, with the reason.
  • A buffer for the gate.

Your next step

Use the airport stopovers framework and fill in the prayer-stop itinerary checklist. If you plan to stay in Korea, read Muslim travel in South Korea. The hub on transit and preparation lists the rest.

Common questions

Where is the prayer room at Incheon Airport?

Incheon's official site lists a Terminal 1 prayer room on the 3rd floor near Gate 24, and another in the West Transfer Lounge on the 4th floor. Both are open 24 hours. If your airline uses another terminal, check the airport's site for that terminal.

Are the Incheon prayer rooms open all day?

The two Terminal 1 rooms are listed as open 24 hours. That suits late arrivals and early connections. Airport information changes, so check Incheon's official facilities page before you fly.

Is halal food easy to find at Incheon?

Treat each outlet by its claim. Korea has certified restaurants, self-certified ones, Muslim-friendly ones and pork-free ones, and the categories mean different things. Ask for the certificate, issuer and expiry, and carry a fallback snack in case you cannot confirm anything.

Do I need a K-ETA to transit through Incheon?

Entry rules differ from transit rules, and they change. Malaysians need a K-ETA for visa-free entry to Korea, but a transit that stays airside is a different case. Check the official Korean pages and your airline before you fly.

Should I leave the airport on a long transit?

Leave only if entry is confirmed, bags are checked through and you have comfortable time to return. Prayer rooms inside the terminal help if you stay. Our guide on long layovers compares the two options on visa, time, prayer and meals.
