Vietnam itinerary

Vietnam with family: three cities, planned for prayer

You like Hanoi, Da Nang and Saigon, but worry about halal meals and the flights between them.

This plan spends seven days across Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, with two short domestic flights. It puts your certificate-checked meals in Ho Chi Minh City, where you have the most time, and keeps the other cities lighter. Prayer windows are named by prayer, so check the exact times on your app.

Who is this plan for?

It suits families on a budget who accept a fast pace, with children who can manage a short flight. It is a planning outline, not a booking, and it leaves your food rule to you. If your parents tire easily, use fewer cities.

Muslims were estimated at 0.2% of Vietnam’s population in 20103. So Muslim-run places are limited, and the plan keeps your certified meals to the one city with the most choice.

The route at a glance

  • Day 1: Arrive in Hanoi and settle.
  • Day 2: Hanoi, one main sight.
  • Day 3: Fly to Da Nang.
  • Day 4: Da Nang, beach morning.
  • Day 5: Fly to Ho Chi Minh City.
  • Day 6: Ho Chi Minh City and its mosque.
  • Day 7: Last morning and departure.

Before you go

Malaysian passport holders need no visa for a stay of up to 30 days in Vietnam1. Check the official page before you fly. Vietnam is 1 hour behind Malaysia7, so reset your prayer app when you land.

Malaysia Airlines lists Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City among its destinations from Kuala Lumpur56. The lists are seasonal, so check which routes are running on your dates.

Day by day

Day 1: Arrive in Hanoi

Land, settle in and keep the evening short. Pray in your room. For dinner, choose a restaurant that shows a certificate, or a pork-free fallback such as vegetables or fish, and treat the fallback as unconfirmed.

Day 2: One sight in Hanoi

Choose one main sight in the morning, and be back at the hotel for Zohor and a rest. Walk again after Asar. Carry dry snacks, since you cannot count on a checked option nearby.

Day 3: Fly to Da Nang

Check the flight time and baggage allowance before you pay. A cheap fare with a late departure can cost you a Zohor or Asar, so plan to pray at the hotel before leaving. Arrive, rest and eat nearby.

Day 4: Da Nang beach morning

Go to the beach early, before it gets hot and crowded. Be back for Zohor, rest in the afternoon, and keep the evening light. A beach that is quiet in the early hours gives hijab-wearing family members more privacy.

Day 5: Fly to Ho Chi Minh City

Another short flight. Allow a buffer for the airport and keep your hand luggage light. Check in, pray, and rest. Choose a dinner with a certificate you can read.

Day 6: Ho Chi Minh City and its mosque

Visit Saigon Central Mosque, which was completed in 19354. Contact them first about visiting arrangements. Pray Zohor there if allowed, and ask staff where nearby Muslim-run places are, then confirm each claim yourself.

JAKIM’s 21 August 2026 list recognises five Vietnamese bodies, including the Halal Certification Agency (HCA) and Vietnam Halal Company Limited (HVN)2. Ask which body issued a restaurant’s certificate.

Day 7: Depart

Pray Subuh, pack, eat a breakfast you have checked and leave generous time for the airport.

Where should you stay?

In Hanoi, choose a quiet stay with easy taxi access. In Da Nang, a stay close to the beach saves walking. In Ho Chi Minh City, choose an area near the mosque. Our pages on Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City compare the options.

How to adjust this plan

  • Shorter: drop Da Nang, and fly Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City directly.
  • Slower: keep Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, and skip Hanoi.
  • Tighter budget: keep the flights, drop paid tours, and spend on a stay near the mosque.

What to book ahead and confirm in writing

Book your flights and stays first. Confirm in writing the baggage allowance, the airport timing and a clean place to pray. For emergencies in Vietnam, police is 113, fire is 114 and ambulance is 1158.

The comparison of two Muslim packages helps if you are weighing a tour against this plan. Vietnam also comes up against Thailand in Vietnam versus Thailand for halal food. For the wider picture, read Muslim travel in Vietnam.

Common questions

Is seven days enough for three cities in Vietnam?

It is enough if you accept two short domestic flights and one main sight per city. It is tight if you have young children or older parents. For a calmer trip, keep two cities and give each of them more time, and let go of the third.

Is halal food easy to find in Vietnam?

Not in the way it is in some countries. Muslim-run places are limited, because Muslims are a very small share of the population. Plan your certified meals around Ho Chi Minh City, treat Hanoi and Da Nang as lighter food days, and check each claim by asking to see the certificate.

How do we save money without losing meals or prayer?

Save on the stay and the transfers, not on the checks. Choose a simple hotel near a mosque or a quiet room, travel with a hand-luggage-only plan if your airline allows, and bring dry snacks. Do not save by booking a package whose halal arrangement you cannot see in writing.

Can we pray at the airport between flights?

Do not assume there is a prayer room. We have no verified details for the Vietnamese airports, so ask your airline or the airport before the flight and plan to pray at the hotel before you leave. Carry a small mat and a way to make wuduk.
