Entry rules

Visa-free entry for Malaysians in Asia

You have chosen a destination and want to know what Malaysian passport holders must arrange first.

Most Asian destinations let Malaysians in without a visa for a short holiday, but each has its own stay length and its own extras. The table below collects the rule for each destination, tells you where the rule came from, and shows the date we read it. Visa rules change, so check the official page before you fly.

What does each destination ask of a Malaysian passport?

Rows that cite a secondary source say so in the Source column. For those, the official page is the one to trust.

Which rows need a second look?

South Korea is the one to read slowly. The Korean foreign ministry notice extends a temporary K-ETA exemption for listed countries to 31 December 2026, but it does not name Malaysia18.

Wikipedia says Malaysians need a K-ETA. Confirm on the official K-ETA portal before you pay for anything.

For Jordan, the Malaysian ministry page showed only a banner about new regulations, so read the latest wording. For Thailand, the new 30-day rule replaces a longer stay5, so ignore older blog posts that still say 60 days.

What else can stop you at the airport?

The visa rule is only one part. These extras sit beside it.

  • Passport validity: Taiwan requires at least six months remaining on the date of entry3, and Turkiye wants the passport valid for more than 60 days beyond your stay27.
  • Onward ticket: Taiwan asks for a confirmed return or onward ticket4.
  • Arrival cards: Thailand’s Digital Arrival Card is due 3 days ahead6. Singapore’s SG Arrival Card is due within 3 days before arrival9. Korea’s e-Arrival Card opens 3 days before19.
  • Declarations: the Maldives wants a free online Traveller Declaration for each traveller, children included, up to 96 hours before arrival24.
  • Sri Lanka stay: the free entry allows up to 30 days, and extensions are applied for inside the country for a fee22.

Where is the data missing?

Passport validity and arrival-card steps are recorded only for the destinations named above. Bhutan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Oman are not in the table. Official pages for six rows could not be read in full, so those entries rest on secondary sources, as the Source column shows.

Fees are not listed except where an official page gave them. Nepal’s visa fees are on the Malaysian ministry page, so read them there.

Where to go next

Read the Transit and preparation hub for the other pre-trip checks, and choosing where to go if the entry rules are helping you decide.

Planning with a large group? See entry rules for large Muslim groups. A first trip abroad is covered in choosing a first overseas holiday, and the prayer-stop itinerary checklist helps you build the days after you land.

Common questions

Is this table enough to skip checking the embassy page?

No. Visa rules can change at short notice, and six rows come from secondary sources that say so in the table. Use the table to plan, then open the official page for your destination before you fly and again before paying a deposit.

What is the difference between visa-free and no paperwork at all?

Visa-free means no visa stamp is needed for a short stay. You may still need a pre-arrival card, a return ticket, proof of funds or a passport with enough validity. Those extras are where travellers get held up at check-in.

Does the stay length cover a trip with two countries?

Each country counts its own stay from your arrival date. Some rows add a limit across a longer period, as China does with its cumulative cap. Read the full wording on the official page if your route enters one country twice.

My row says Wikipedia. Can I trust it?

Treat it as a pointer, not a decision. Wikipedia pages are edited by the public, so confirm with the destination's immigration site or the Malaysian embassy page before you book flights or hotels that cannot be changed.
