Room requests: connecting rooms, beds, floors
Your family spans three generations and you need rooms that work together, not just rooms that exist.
Ask for the room type that matches your need, and ask for it to appear in the booking document. Connecting rooms, extra beds and floors are not equally easy to secure. Sorting them first saves you an unpleasant check-in.
Which room requests can be booked, and which are only requests?
| Request | Can it be booked? | How to get it recorded |
|---|---|---|
| Bed count and bed type | Yes, as a room type | Name the room type in the booking |
| Two rooms at once | Yes | Book both, in one reservation |
| Connecting rooms | Sometimes | Ask if it is a bookable type or a request |
| Extra bed or cot | Usually, with a charge | Ask the type and the room’s capacity |
| Same floor or nearby rooms | A request | Ask for it as a note, then confirm |
| Women-only floor | Seldom offered | Ask if such a floor exists first |
| Quiet side, lift distance | A request | Mark as a preference |
How do I ask for connecting rooms?
Write the exact need: “two rooms, connected by an internal door, one with two single beds for the children, one with a double bed for the parents”. Then ask: “Is this a room type you can confirm, or a request?” If it is a request, ask what the hotel will offer if none are free, for example two rooms side by side. That answer tells you how firm the request is, as explained in special requests and their limits.
How do I ask for an extra bed?
State the age of the person and the bed type you accept. A child may take a cot or a folding bed. An adult may be uncomfortable on a sofa bed for a week, so mention the number of nights.
Ask whether the room is big enough with the extra bed and whether there is a daily charge. Ask for the answer in the booking confirmation.
What about gender-separate floors and privacy?
Few hotels run floors by gender, so do not assume. If a hotel advertises one, ask the room type and book it directly. If it does not, ask for rooms on the same floor so a family can stay together, and ask about the pool and gym hours: mixed use is common, and some families prefer a quiet time. A room with a door that closes properly and a separate sitting area matters more for privacy than a floor label.
How do I keep rooms practical for elders?
Ask for a room near the lift, a bathroom without a high step, and a bed height that suits the person. A prayer corner is easier in a room with floor space; a prayer mat and the qibla direction can be requested. The private-stay requirements builder pulls these points into a short brief for a hotel.
What goes in the written request?
Use one message per hotel, listing room type, beds, ages and nights. When the reply arrives, check each line against which arrangements to confirm in writing. If you are comparing packages that include hotels, the Muslim-tour inclusion comparator shows the room line of each. The booking hub lists the checks that follow.

Common questions
Can I book connecting rooms in advance?
You can ask, but the hotel may only promise two rooms of the right type, not that they connect. Ask whether connecting rooms are a bookable room type or a request. If it is a request, ask what the hotel will do if none are free.
Do hotels have floors only for women or families?
Most do not. A few hotels in some destinations advertise women-only or family floors, but it is not standard. If it matters to you, ask directly whether such a floor exists and book that room type, rather than assuming.
How should I ask for an extra bed?
State the person's age and ask for the bed type: a folding bed, a sofa bed or a cot. Ask whether the room can fit it and whether there is a charge. Get the answer written in the booking, since the front desk may not have your earlier note.
What if the family cannot all fit in one room type?
Look at two rooms side by side or across the corridor rather than one large room. Ask for rooms on the same floor and near the lift if elders are travelling. A pair of ordinary rooms booked together is easier to confirm than a rare family suite.
